Phantom Brave Stories [Sep. 12th, 2004|07:55 pm]
Silicon Rose
[Current Mood |amusedamused]

Background: genedefect is playing through a fairly difficult bonus dungeon. Though the monsters started at level 4, this is a 29 level dungeon, and he is currently on level 16. Thankfully, it's a bonus stage, and all the monsters are asleep.

genedefect: Yes!
Me: Well, it's good they're all asleep, but are you going to be able to kill them in time?
genedefect: There's a time limit?
Me: There's a limited number of objects on the field. (In Phantom Brave, any character you summon can only remain on the field for a limited amount of time, and you need objects to summon new characters.)
genedefect: Oh.
[To try and get the spawn location closer, he picks up an object and throws it. Unfortunately, the field is "very bouncy", and the object bounces three times and lands out of bounds.]

[Both pause.]
genedefect: And now there's one less.

Phantom Brave? Isn't that the somewhat-Disgaea-ish new release, with stuff like no-grid movement?

How is it?

Well, I think genedefect has to speak to that. I've played a little bit, but I was just mucking with one of the bonus battles. I found it very frustrating, but I was jumping into a strategy game a) not having built the characters I was controlling up myself and b) not having undergone a tutorial.

Can't you just throw all the monsters off the field if they're asleep?

The problem is that when you throw a monster off the field, all of the others level up. So if you level them too high, you may not be able to kill them. And the last monster can't be thrown off the field. (That'd make it just too easy, kind of like killing Prinnies.)

Unfortunately, this throw one off and have everyone else level up does NOT work for your own team. You get thrown off, you're "just" down one character.
