So far, I'm enjoying the game. I think I'm glad that the actual game is nowhere near as difficult as the Battle Simulator practice -- I still probably couldn't win more than half the times trying to run that thing.
I find Rimura incredibly cute... the scene where she meets the main characters and her reaction to Phaze is priceless. I know I'm being manipulated, but I can't find the energy to care.
Welch is insane.
I like the new invention system. In Star Ocean 3, there was a lot of randomization and a high chance of failure during creation. In Star Ocean 4, the only chance of failure is in creating recipes, and unless I miss my mark, that can only happen if the characters involved in the brainstorming meeting are actually out of ideas. After that, as long as you have the ingredients, you can create anything you have the recipe for. (Welch still comments on "Oh, I wonder if it's going to work!", but I think that's just for flavor.) Unfortunately, finding ingredients can be a smidge difficult, and buying them can be expensive.
Shops now have little quest lists of things they want you to bring them. I'm still amused by the guy in the backwater village who wants two custard pies. He might even be the weapons dealer. ^^;;
