The Light That Blinds by Shadows Fall
This song was one of the bonus songs from Guitar Hero II, which is where I was first introduced to it. The opening is a beautiful acoustic guitar sequence, but most of the singing in the song is screaming. That said, the lead singer of Shadows Fall has a decent voice and can handle melodic singing as well, so it feels subtly better to my ears. I also like the guitar work that Shadows Fall turns out. I also like their song Redemption, and several of the other songs on The War Within, though I haven't learned them well enough to name them by name.
A Little Bit of Heaven by Avenged Sevenfold
The lyrics are seriously disturbing, but remarkably, I still like this song. I find it really entertaining musically, even though I feel like I shouldn't. In general, that's how I feel about a lot of Avenged Sevenfold's music.
The Farthest Star by VNV Nation
VNV Nation has a bit of the feel of Iris to me, though I'd judge them a little heavier on the techno. So far, The Farthest Star is my favorite, though I like several others, such as Standing and Darkangel. One of the things I like about this song in particular is that its lyrics are cautionary, but hopeful. I feel stronger when I listen to it.
