Well, I went back to karate for the first time in four years. I found a school around here. Plus side - well, most of my form on the basics is still very good. I can throw a punch cleanly, I still snap my techniques at least at the same level as I had qualified for before, and while my balance sucks, I've been told this is typical for a four year leave of absence.

But I can't even do an hour of workout. They started losing me around the fifty push-ups (around five minutes in), and I just dropped out around three-quarters of the way through the first set of front kicks. Then I went back in. And dropped out. And went back in. And dropped out. And...

Okay, so it was 80 degrees. The conditions surrounding my return were - well, let's say 'not ideal'. But I had fancied myself in okay shape, especially after walking at least four miles on Sunday, around a quarter of which was at a severe incline. Of course, I was in okay shape to walk four miles on Sunday. I think my body kind of went 'okay! Time for a break!' and just turned off every bit of endurance I have after that.

It's always going to be miserable at the start, though. It was nice to actually do it again. Nice to get complimented on my stances. Nice to push myself.

That's normal for starting a new workout routine. When I first started aerobics back in '02 it kicked my ass pretty solidly for a month, but I got into it. Your muscles need to get to being used again. It won't take long, about a month if you work at it, but it'll happen.

Yeah. I think the worst part is that karate really hits almost every part of your body, so everything hurts. At least when I just do some running, the only thing that hurts a few days later is my legs. Right now my arms hurt, my sides hurt, my upper legs hurt, my lower legs hurt, my back hurts...

I know it'll get better. I just wish it didn't suck so much right now. ^^

It will suck at first, but it will pass soon.
