I was seriously considering trying to make 30,000 tonight, but I don't think I can bull another decent 1,000 in 30 minutes, no matter how fast I'm writing. So, no 30,000 for me. Tomorrow's another day.
I got scolded today during the Write-In for going back and re-editing my outline and trying to figure out what I needed to do next, but I'd already written 2,000 words at that point, so.... The problem was, one of the characters gets hurt pretty badly, and I had two scenes of discussion with other characters that I needed to further the plot, but at the end of scene #2, she was still flat on her back. I thought it'd be too much of a jerk to throw her back out into another action scene without giving at least one scene where she was partially healed, so I tossed in another school scene which sets up a couple of things that need to happen soon and had her make a significant decision to do something.
I'm not sure my plot is as character-driven as I'd hoped, but I do think it's a decent story. I've had to go back and modify my outline - as I'd mentioned above, some of the scenes just didn't click when I got to them - but it's nice to know where I'm bloody going. It does make it easier.
