The Kingdom Hearts Series Ultimania Alpha was pretty interesting. I just finished rushing through the Chain of Memories story details, and honestly, Riku's half was much more interesting than Sora's. Fundamentally, I'm not 100% sure of the point of Sora's half, at least when considering the changes it made to Sora. I guess it introduces Namine clearer than Riku's half, and it goes into details of a (more or less) different group of Org 13 members, and it does provide some crossover plot points into Riku's half... but Riku's half had real character development.

Riku's half also ties -much- better into Deep Dive. After all, it ends up with he and Mickey dressed up in Org-13-style robes, unlike Sora who gets stuck in a tube for some unknown amount of time.

Argh. Now I want to play Kingdom Hearts II...

The comment was made before anyone knew the plot, so it did look like just a disguise.

I believe King Mickey's Keyblade is darkness. Sora's is light. Riku's is the Way to the Dawn.

And yeah, of course the dead Organization XIII people didn't appear in KH2, but I didn't know they'd all been killed in CoM, so I wondered where they were.

Reason #4 I Don't Play the KH Series...

Symbolism + Disney characters = Head-Explody.
