FFXII interview in Famitsu [May. 20th, 2006|08:30 pm]

There's an interview in Famitsu related to FFXII (3/31 issue, which I just got around to reading):

Q: "Finally, what do you most want the readers to see when they play the game?"

Minaba: In interviews for other games I've been asked this. However, for this game it's very difficult to say. It's not easily contained (laugh). I know I'm being unreasonable, but I'd like people to see the entire thing, even if it takes them 200 hours.

Yeah, I guess if I had to say one particular thing I'd like people to see, it'd be the ending. I want people not to give up and just play through the entire game in their own time. And before watching the ending, I advise that you hit the toilet and prepare, first. (laugh)

200 hours. Honestly, 65 hours in and still spending hours on mini-games... maybe 2/3 of the way through the plot... yeah. I can buy 200 hours. I kind of wish I hadn't gotten sucked in, though. I have so many other games to play, too.

And as for the ending... yep. Wow, I can't count the amount of times that I haven't set aside three or so hours to beat the final boss and watch the ending, and I've always ended up regretting it.

The first time I beat Star Ocean II, the last boss took me SEVEN HOURS. Then the ending was about 15 minutes.

Needless to say, I was NOT HAPPY.

For the record, the first four times I fought that boss, I lost. Very, very quickly the first time, as soon as he hit his second form the second time, then I accidentally unlocked the HARD ENDING and died on his first attack the third time, and the fourth time, I died somewhere in hour TEN.

...See, I had this great strategy involving armor that made you invincible but caused your HP to drop incredibly quickly (four nines to nothing in less than a minute). So, I equipped it on the entire party, gave my healer an item that caused you to convert 1/10 of the damage from incoming spells into MP, turned off all his abilities except the strongest cure everybody spell, and set his AI to waste magic points flagrantly.

It took 10 hours for the final boss to run out of MP.
