Well, I finally did it. After a year of dealing with a tooth that hurt, I finally got the root canal done. Of course, I think I might have been happier if I'd KNOWN there was a root canal coming when I went into the specialist - I could have sworn my dentist said 'another evaluation', but when I got in there they presented me with a consent for treatment form. (For a lot of money... ouch.)
He was less careful with the anesthetic injections than the dentist is, so it did hurt a decent amount, but it got the job done. Now that I've had a couple of decent experiences, it's no longer as bad even when it does hurt. Anyways, one thing about a root canal is that it involves them a lot of small needle-like objects what feels like very deep into your jaw, and, just to make it all better, several of the needle-like objects are also drills. Just to make the experience even more fun. Like most other major dental work I've had done, my mouth hurt like nuts when it was finished due to the effort of keeping it wide open for an hour.
But... that area of my mouth doesn't hurt any more. I'll have to give it time - and wait for the end of the ibuprofen overdoses I was prescribed - but I might finally have gotten rid of the problem. That would make me very happy.
