This fills me with deep concern: Oil Prices Hit $75 a Barrel.

Shortages on the East Coast?

The "true price" for oil being $100?

...I've got a bad feeling.

Well, either the economy's about to finally go kerpflut, as it's been threatening to for years... or we're about to finally switch to, you know, non-stupid energy sources. Depends on how rapidly things change, and whether our economy is as unstable as it looks.

It's doubtful that the energy companies are going to turn to other sources of energy until each and every oil derrick on this planet has ground to a halt.

I just don't think that companies could change fast enough - I think that we'd hit a crisis first.

The customer's definitely feeling the hit.

Lyssa and I drove back to Pittsburgh tonight and wound up paying $3us per gallon.. that's the cheapest we could find down here.

Getting fucked wouldn't have been so bad if they'd bought me dinner and a couple of drinks first.

Cheapest out here is about 2.89 still...however I bet it'll go up to 3.00 by the end of the weekend, if it hasn't already. I didn't go out today.

Re: The customer's definitely feeling the hit.

The middle grade just passed $3 this evening out here in my area, but that was apparently based on the oil prices yesterday, which were $72/barrel - so in that case, they'd be going up further tomorrow.

Note that we are by far not the most expensive gas in the general area.

Re: The customer's definitely feeling the hit.

Hanging out with cnorgard today, we drove for half an hour (in the general direction of where we were going, but on a traffickier route with more gas stations) to find a place where the lowest grade was under $3. We found one for $2.99 just as the low gas light went from flickering to steady.

The price of oil is just being driven up by speculation. I won't start worrying until we actually nuke Iran. That would be trouble.

If you want something to worry about, the fact that in four years the USA will have a national debt as large as our GNP is slightly more troublesome.
