First thought as the credits started rolling: ...and that's the good ending?!

I admire the writers for having the guts to do that, though.

You know, one of my favorite things about Eternal Darkness is that the endings get *less* happy as you go from "easiest to get" to "the real ending", so that the "best" ending is downright ominous... but that's a survival horror game. I'm impressed RPG writers would go that route -- normally RPGs are extremely straightforward epic/comedy hybrids, structurally speaking.

Have you played Shadow Hearts? It's got a sort of survival horror RPG feel. Your characters have Sanity Points, after all, that go down as battles progress.

I keep meaning to try it, but... first Mega Man and then Civ III ate all my game time. And my soul. I am now desperately struggling against the urge to create a Lord of the Rings mod for Civ III...

*laughs*

The other problem, of course, is getting ahold of a copy. I still have no idea if there's a video game store anywhere near me... maybe if this incredibly nice weather (60-ish with a stiff breeze) continues through the weekend I'll finally get to walk around Rockville Town Center and find out what's in there.

Otherwise, I have to go to White Flint, which is horrible even for a mall.

It is. That's why I like SH - they don't pull their punches. :P

I wasn't expecting the truth behind Karen's relationship to Uru, and certainly wasn't expecting what happened at the end. It's not often that a game manages to surprise me with the ending.

But Uru's such a likeable character, it makes me wish they had. ...ouch.

Yeah. I had some ideas about what the two endings could be like, and what actually happened didn't bear any resemblance to my imaginings.
